Midterm 2006 Election TV Coverage Review
November 8, 2006 at 12:10 PM
Our Panelists came up with the following ranking of the Midterm Election TV coverage:
1st Place: CNN (TWX)- I am surprised to say anything nice about Time Warner. CNN has discovered server technology, graphics oriented programming and celebrity political commentators. Also, they went late, they stayed on all night. They are the de facto "Network of Record" for election coverage. Great election website and exit poll analysis too.
2nd Place: Daily Show/Colbert Report (VIA)- Just too funny. I couldn't stop the belly laughs. These guys are genius. No real election coverage but an entertaining diversion.
3rd Place/4th Place Tie: CBS (CBS) , ABC (DIS) - Yeah, whatever. I couldn't tell the difference between this coverage and the 2004 conventions.
LAST PLACE: NBC (GE)- we switched directly from the CNN fancy graphics and saw Tim Russert with a white board. He was writing down the names of Republican senators in red and Democrats in blue. I'm serious. This was like John Madden 1978.
FOXNews (NWS.A) didn't really seem to play. We turned it on a couple of times during Fox News report and while they were covering the election it was mainly with a reporter standing in front of the capital talking at the camera. Didn't really seem like election coverage.
PBS. Never checked.
Disclosures and confessions: I do not own any of the shares of any of the companies mentioned. I would buy GE or DIS if they got a little cheaper.
